I work, study, and write 12-16 hours a day. Pursuing my PhD in Special Education studying not only minority achievement gaps and overrepresentation in special education but also working to DO something about it. This will be my life legacy. Every time i see a little black boy or girl who’s not reading or writing at grade level I’m inspired even more. I refuse to let them be another statistic or end up in the system as theyre already speculated to one day be… A couple of days ago a new issue of Vibe magazine debuted with “reality” “stars” on the cover, deeming them as the new “role models”… I have to admit when I heard about this my feelings were hurt. What is this world coming to? What are these ladies doing to contribute to society? To uplift our people? To uplift ANYbody for that matter? I don’t even have cable so I don’t watch the shows but if I log onto Facebook I can pretty much catch up. Lol… But when i think about it I’m glad I know where my strength comes from and moreso of the fact that I don’t need validation from the world that what I’m doing is meaningful and wonderful. For those of you working hard to leave a MEANINGFUL LEGACY, keep doing what youre doing. It may not be recognized immediately or even at all. But always know what truly matters! :)
